In a near future where machines have taken over most human work, Zoe, a despairing artist, becomes a finalist for a coveted prize: permanent digital immersion in which pain and unwanted feelings are engineered away. As the company's selection process asks finalists to prove they deserve relief from suffering, it becomes clear Zoe has entered for reasons of her own, and the film asks whether peace comes from escaping pain or moving through it.
