After losing their parents, Yasmin cares for her younger brother in Bengaluru. When her first period leaves both children frightened and uninformed, help comes from two transgender women.

Why we picked it

A frightening first experience becomes a story about the difference kindness and understanding can make. Watch Menarche for its focus on two children and the people willing to help them.

Menstruation and blood, parental bereavement, poverty, childhood distress and stigma. A fictional story, not medical advice.
